Police are trying to establish how a man who may have been in Māngere last night was fatally injured.
Counties Manukau police have launched a homicide investigation after the man was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a private vehicle just before 8.30pm.
The man died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
An investigation is underway including an examination of the vehicle he was taken to hospital in, police said in a statement.
Police are also trying to notify the man's whānau.
They believe the man may have been with others in Māngere just before 7pm.
They will be speaking to residents in the area today in the hope of locating witnesses.
