Cycling, walking undervalued in roads strategy - MOH

Green Party politicians have released documents which reveal the Health Ministry doesn't think either public transport, or walking and cycling, are receiving enough funding.

Information obtained by the party shows the ministry voiced its concern last year when the Government Policy Statement on Land Transport Funding was developed.

It was concerned the objective of protecting and promoting public health received little attention.

Public transport services will receive $830 million in the next three years.

Green Party transport spokesperson, Julie Anne Genter, says the $36 million to $90 million set aside for walking and cycling is woefully inadequate.
