A search for two missing Southland fishermen is being brought to an end today.
Search and rescuers trying to find Shaun Orchard, 23, and Hendrix Kamo, 28, have been stood down as the formal search wrapped up.
The men went missing off rocks at Slope Point near Bluff on 27 January.
Heavy swell and high winds hampered search efforts last week. The marine search was suspended after three days.
Invercargill Police Search and Rescue Detective Sergeant Dave Kennelly said 80 people searched the coast between Waipapa Point and Waikawa Harbour without success on Thursday.
"Unfortunately the search was not successful and the decision has been made to withdraw the formal search teams," he said.
"If new information comes to our attention police will follow up, however search and rescue teams have been stood down."
Police thanked volunteers and staff who have been involved in the search, which has involved rescue helicopters, swimmers and fishing vessels.
