Murray in sublime form in Melbourne

06:00 am on 25 January 2011

Andy Murray produced arguably the best tennis so far at the Australian Open, brushing aside Austria's 11 Juergen Melzer 6-3 6-1 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals in Melbourne.

Melzer, who'll make the world's top-10 for the first time when the rankings are next updated, described Murray's performance as "extraordinary".

The Scot's next opponent is the young Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, who upset the fourth seed Robin Soderling.

Rafael Nadal described his straight sets win over Croatia's Marin Cilic as easily his best performance of the tournament.

The women's title favourite Kim Clijsters prevailed 7-6 6-2 against the Russian lefthander Ekaterina Makarova to reach the last eight in Melbourne for the first time since her return from retirement.
