Ministry of Health in Samoa faces a multimillion dollar lawsuit

Samoa's Ministry of Health is facing a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the government's health service.

The action is by the family of a pregnant mother who died with her unborn child at Tuaisvi hospital on Savaii island in February this year.

The 3 million US dollar suit has named the Minister and CEO of the ministry, as well as the National Health Service as defendants for allege negligence.

The case has been filed in court and will be called for first mention this month.

Following the death of the mother and her unborn child an opposition MP, Levaopolo Talatonu, called on the government and the ministry of health to consider immediate action to improve medical health service for Savaii island.
