The Crusaders have begun their Super 14 rugby season with a 32-17 defeat of the Highlanders in Christchurch.
It was 10-0 at half-time to the Crusaders, who scored four tries through Andy Ellis, Jared Payne, Sean Maitland and Zac Guildford.
Guildford's first try for the Cantabrians came with seven minutes remaining to seal the win and the bonus point.
All Black first-five Daniel Carter converted three tries and kicked two penalties while the Highlanders scored two tries through Michael Hobbs, who also converted both and kicked a penalty.
Hobbs came on for the injured Matt Berquist at half-time and was pivotal in their comeback as the Highlanders fought back to trail 18-17 with 13 minutes remaining.
