Eastern Highlands woman is PNG's latest covid case

A 28 year-old woman from Eastern Highlands Province is the latest confirmed case of covid-19 in Papua New Guinea.

This brings the total number of laboratory confirmed cases of the coronavirus in PNG to 589.

The Goroka-based woman who tested positive did not have symptoms of the virus at the time of testing.

According to the National Pandemic Controller, she had come into contact with a previously-identified case.

It also said 575 people have recovered from the virus, while seven active cases are being isolated.

PNG has reported seven covid-related deaths.

Eastern Highlands now has thirteen cases.

Only two other provincial administrations have registered more cases.

The National Capital District has confirmed 342 cases, and Western province has reported 203.

Overall, fourteen provinces have at least one confirmed case.
