He is accused of murdering Anastasia Neve and David Clarke at their Wesley Street flat sometime on 21 or 22 January.

Their bodies were discovered after a fire in the flat early on 22 January.

During a brief appearance in the Dunedin District Court, Judge Dominic Flatley allowed the 46-year-old to remain anonymous until his charges were heard in the High Court.

The man, who was yesterday charged at Otago Corrections with two counts of murder, was remanded in custody without plea.

He was earlier charged with arson.
