Poultry company Tegel Foods has been fined $41,250 after one of its employees lost part of a finger in a mincing machine.
The woman's left ring finger had to be amputated at the first knuckle after it was hit by an unguarded rotating blade at the Christchurch factory in October last year.
A Department of Labour investigation found the accident could have been avoided if a safety guard had been fitted.
The department says two key safety procedures involving the machine's operation were also ignored.
The Christchurch District Court also ordered Tegel Foods to pay the employee $5000 in reparation.
