Suspicious house fire in Waitomo under investigation

Fire and Emergency is investigating a suspicious house fire overnight in Waikato's Waitomo.

Ten firefighters and two trucks responded to the fire on the roof of a single-storey home on Akatane Street in Te Kūiti, after being called about 3.15am.

A Fire and Emergency spokesperson said the fire was extinguished and was being treated as suspicious.

The house was empty at the time, they said.

The spokesperson said an investigator would examine the scene later on Sunday.
