A person has been injured in a firearms incident in Invercargill.
Police are now appealing for witnesses following the incident on Saturday night.
The incident occurred on Earn Street, Invercargill around 7.20pm.
One person later went to hospital with injuries and was expected to be discharged today.
"The Armed Offenders Squad attended the incident as a precautionary measure," Detective Sergeant Mark McCloy said.
"Multiple scene examinations are ongoing today as police work to determine the circumstances."
McCloy acknowledged such incidents could be "alarming and unsettling for those living in the vicinity"
"Police would like to thank Invercargill residents for their patience and cooperation."
The incident was being taken seriously, police said, and officers were working to hold those responsible to accout.
"At this early stage, no arrests have been made."
McCloy said police were appealing for information about a white 2006 Toyota Camry in the Earn Street area around the time of the incident.
