In his absence Kaylum Boshier returns to the starting line-up in the number seven jersey while Luke Jacobson will assume the captaincy.

It's the only change to the starting lineup which beat the Waratahs 51-27 last round.

Friday's game is significant for both the Reds and Chiefs who are fourth and fifth respectively.

A win for the Chiefs would see them move into the top four, a position the team would need to hold to secure a home quarter-final in June.

The former world number one, who will be 41 in August, has not played since July last year, when he was knocked out of Wimbledon in the quarter-finals against Hubert Hurkacz.

Federer underwent two knee operations in 2020 and returned to the tour last year, but had another knee surgery after Wimbledon that forced him to miss the second half of the season.

Djokovic cleared to play

The All England Lawn Tennis Club has confirmed that there will be no Covid-19 measures in place at the 2022 tournament and vaccination will not be mandatory for players to participate, which will allow Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic to defend his title.

Players will also be allowed to stay in their own private accommodation, unlike the last edition when they had to all stay in a central London hotel to minimise the risks of Covid-19 infections.

Djokovic, a 20-time major champion, was denied a chance to defend his Australian Open title in January due to his unvaccinated status.

The attendance will break the previous record set in 2000 when Tiger Woods won the tournament in front of 239,000 spectators.

"The news that this will be the largest Championship ever staged is a phenomenal feat and reminds us of the enduring appeal of golf," said Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland.

Organisers said they received more than 1.3 million applications in the ticket ballot which led to the highest number of tickets being issued to fans.

The 150th edition of The Open, one of golf's major championships, will take place from July 10-17 at the Old Course.
