Police say it is extremely lucky no one else was hurt in a drive-by shooting in Taupo that injured a teenager.
They say 17-year-old was walking to the shops about 6.30pm on Wednesday when he was shot at from a moving car.
Taupo area commander Inspector Steve Bullock says a slug hit the teenager in his lower abdomen and he underwent surgery at Rotorua Hospital on Thursday.
His injuries are not life-threatening.
Mr Bullock says the teenager knew the people in the vehicle. Police are questioning one of the car's occupants and have identified other suspects.
