Police reveal route of two cars of interest after meter reader critically injured

Police are asking for sightings of two vehicles travelling in the area around the time a meter reader was critically injured in Waikato.

The meter reader was found with serious head injuries on 5 January on Oliver Street in Kihikihi.

His car was stolen from the road, and later found on fire on Kawhia Road, near the turnoff to State Highway 39 south of Pirongia.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Andrew Saunders said police were seeking dashcam footage of a red Daihatsu Terios, registration LKN281, belonging to the victim, and a silver Nissan Primera, registration DHA220.

Both vehicles are believed to have travelled between Kihikihi and Tihiroa on the afternoon of 5 January and police are asking anyone travelling the route pictured between 4.30pm and 8pm on that day to come forward.

"We are particularly interested in anyone who may have dashcam footage, or if anyone who lives along that route has CCTV footage that may be of use to police," Saunders said.
