International Pounamu show on the move

08:52 am on 2 April 2013

The travelling exhibition of pounamu from Te Papa Tongarewa - the National Museum of New Zealand has moved from one province to another in China.

Kura Pounamu: Treasured Jade Art of Aotearoa New Zealand has been on show in Beijing and organisers say the display has been a hit.

The exhibition is now being moved to Liangzhu Museum in Hangzhou.

It showcases more than 200 pieces of carefully selected pounamu, explaining their origins and stories of the special relationship New Zealanders have with greenstone.

Te Papa says earlier talks to arrange the display led to an agreement that the Maori cloak given to Chairman Mao in 1957 would be temporarily returned to New Zealand.
