One person has died following a serious crash north-east of Whangārei this morning.
The two-vehicle crash on Ngunguru Road in the coastal settlement of Ngunguru was reported to police shortly after 10am.
One person died at the scene and a second person has been taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
Diversions were in place and motorists were being asked to avoid the area, police said in a statement.
Inquiries into the crash were continuing.
