One of Southland's largest roading projects is on track to open by mid-2020.
The State Highway One realignment near Edendale has been under way for just over five months.
The 2.6km upgrade will improve highway safety by creating more safe overtaking opportunities between Invercargill and Gore, and providing a consistent speed.
The Transport Authority said the road would ensure reliable access for tourism, farming and forestry while shifting highway traffic away from Edendale.
The finished alignment is expected to carry more than 4500 vehicles a day, and it is anticipated the northern section will be sealed by Christmas.
