Police officers and a dog team have searched extensively around a Kaitaia school where a man with a firearm was reportedly seen behind the grounds just before midday.

A police spokesperson said Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Pukemiro was no longer in lockdown and cordons were being lifted around Norman Senn Avenue.
Police said they believed the man had left in a vehicle and was no longer in the area, and they were making enquiries to identify him.
