The New Zealand Superannuation Fund is investing $US60 million into LanzaTech, the gas fermentation company that has recently relocated to Chicago.

LanzaTech, which was founded in New Zealand in 2005, turns waste gas from steel mills into ethanol and other fuels and chemicals.

The head of international direct investment, Nigel Gormly, said this was one of a series of investments that the government-owned fund has made in privately-owned companies that are not yet ready to become listed companies.
