Pacific Forum gives Fiji three months to revise election timeline

The interim government in Fiji has three months to consider a plan for elections in the country within two years.

A Pacific Forum foreign ministers' meeting in Vanuatu endorsed a report that called for the government installed after last year coup to step down and the military to stop interfering with the judiciary.

New Zealand's Foreign Minister says the interim administration in Fiji would be very foolish to ignore the united view of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Winston Peters says the Forum countries also agreed to form a joint venture group to assist Fiji if asked.

Mr Peters says the foreign ministers' meeting was firm on getting a return to democracy in Fiji.
