Kidnapped women trapped in boot for hours - police

19:29 pm on 4 May 2018

Two women who were kidnapped by five young people may have spent hours trapped in a car boot before they were found, police say.

Police said the women found the five trying to break into their car in the city centre at about 10pm.

They were assaulted before being forced into the boot of a stolen Mazda Demio and driven to South Auckland, where the car went off a bridge and down a five-metre bank.

The two victims were found in the boot with moderate injuries and taken to Middlemore Hospital for treatment.

A 20-year-old woman, two 15-year-old boys and a 14-year-old girl will appear in court tomorrow on kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges.

A 13-year-old girl will be referred to Youth Aid.

Women kidnapped, locked in boot by five people

Detective Inspector Scott Beard said the police had been supporting the women and their families.

He did not give details of how they were forced into the hatchback car, saying only there were five offenders and two victims and the offenders used violence and the threat of violence.

"We believe the two women were in the vehicle for at least two, up to three hours.

"And, of course, having been assaulted and been kidnapped - that's very traumatic."

Victim Support workers have been supporting the women and their families.

One of the women has been released from hospital with the other expected to be released later tonight.
