Two people have suffered serious injuries in separate assaults north of Wellington early this morning.

The first occurred on Mana Esplanade in Porirua shortly after midnight.
A police spokesperson said a person was taken to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.
One person has been arrested.
Another serious assault took place about an hour later, on nearby Lydney Place.
Arrests were also made in this case.
