A teenager has been charged with assault after a stabbing at Orewa, north of Auckland.

Police say an 18-year-old man has moderate injuries after the attack at West Hoe Road yesterday.

The accused person is due to appear in the North Shore Youth Court next week.

Police are investigating assaults which took place in Auckland and Wellington last night.

Police are seeking information about an incident where a man received critical injuries after being assaulted on the North Shore.

Police said he was walking in Glenfield last night when he was approached by a man in a red, four-door hatchback car.

They said it is unclear whether the pair knew each other, but they spoke before the man was injured.

In Wellington, one person is understood to have been seriously injured following a reported assault near Te Papa at about 7.15pm last night.
