As it happened: Covid-19 updates from NZ and around the world

17:26 pm on 1 May 2020

Finance Minister Grant Robertson has warned New Zealanders not to hold parties at home during level 3, as the Covid-19 coronavirus can spread easily at such events.

As Covid-19 spreads around the world, it can be daunting keeping up with the information. For RNZ, our responsibility is to give you verified, up to the minute, trustworthy information to help you make decisions about your lives and your health. We'll also be asking questions of officials and decision makers about how they're responding to the virus. Our aim is to keep you informed.

Speaking at a media conference this afternoon, Robertson said most New Zealanders were doing the right thing, but there had been an increase in reports about parties in residential houses.

Robertson warned those making plans for the weekend to cancel them now, as the virus had proven it will spread easily at events like these.

He said police would have a "dim view" on this kind of activity.

"Don't be an idiot, stick to your bubble and everyone will be better off."
