The man accused of killing Northland grandmother Linda Woods is appealing the publication of his name.
He appeared with his head bowed in the dock in the Kaikohe District Court this morning, facing charges of aggravated assault, manslaughter and burglary.
The man did not enter a plea to any of the charges.
Woods, 71, died last Thursday night after being injured during a struggle when a person broke into her Taraire Street property.
The public gallery was filled with his family members, who shouted "love you" to the defendant as he left the dock.
Judge Greg Davies granted interim name suppression until the accused's next appearance in the High Court at Whangārei on 23 June.

Funeral underway for Woods
At least 100 friends, family and community members have gathered this morning for the funeral of Linda Woods.
She was remembered as a beautiful person who contributed generously to the community.
Many of the attendees wore purple clothes, purple flower garlands and ribbons, as this was Woods' favourite colour.
Close family members huddled around the casket before the service.
Other community members lined the streets outside the funeral house as they paid tribute to Woods.
