A Court of Appeal decision means manufacturing of compost can continue on Puketutu Island.
The Auckland Regional and Manukau City Councils originally denied a resource consent to Living Earth saying it would be an industrial activity in a rural zone.
The Environment Court over-ruled them and granted the company a 10 year resource consent on the island in the Manukau Harbour.
The Court of Appeal has upheld the verdict and the regional council says it's unlikely it will take the matter any further.
Living Earth co-founder and director Rob Fenwick says it's been a protracted process and the company has spent more than $1 million in legal fees to secure the consent.
