A $90 million redevelopment of Auckland's waterfront was officially opened on Saturday morning.
The Wynyard Quarter used to be full of fuel tanks but those are being phased out in favour of green spaces and commercial premises.
Ten hectares of the former industrial and port area are now home to an events centre, restaurants and tram service.
There is also a playground, basketball court, art installations and a boulevard.
The marketing manager for Waterfront Auckland, John Gundesen, says the project has taken six years, two District Plan changes, 35 resource consents and 800,000 hours of construction.
He says another 26 hectares will be developed over the next 14 years as leases expire.
