Geographic Board nominations open

06:30 am on 16 April 2013

Iwi are amongst those being asked to suggest candidates for the New Zealand Geographic Board.

Land Information Minister Maurice Williamson has opened the nominations.

The board announced earlier this month that it would consult the public over its intention to formalise the names of the North and South Islands as well as their alternative Maori titles, Te Ika a Maui and Te Waipounamu.

The terms of seven board members are expiring, so nominations are being sought from several parties, including the Minister of Maori Affairs, Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu and Waikato Tainui.

Nominations close on 23 May.
