Interviews and live sets from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we catch up with Auckland duo Carb On Carb.
Pop-punk two-piece Carb On Carb have been very busy. Since releasing their first EP no body perfect back in 2012, the pair, made up of Nicole Gaffney and James Stuteley have toured consistently, both within Australasia and internationally. With the release of their debut self-titled album in early 2015, the two quit their day jobs to dedicate the year to touring.
Stuteley says touring internationally has given them opportunities they might never have had if they had stayed in New Zealand, such as meeting Malaysian record label Toothache Splinter, who released the album on cassette tape. Both agree that experiencing international DIY scenes has made them reflect on how thriving the music scene is in New Zealand.
“It was really nice to come back to New Zealand and be like, actually we have amazing bands here,” says Gaffney, “We have really nice venues and cool stuff happening. It doesn’t have to be huge, it just has to be good.”
We caught up with the pair at their Wellington leg of their New Zealand tour with Sydney two-piece H A N N A H B A N D.
