Indonesia has sent a counselling team to Papua's central Highlands, where hundreds of students have reportedly fled violence.

Since December, conflict has ramped up between the West Papua Liberation Army and Indonesian security forces.

Antara News reported earlier this month the violence had displaced 406 students and more than 80 teachers in Jayawijaya regency.

An official with Indonesia's Social Affairs Ministry told the state news agency on Saturday that counselling is being provided to 210 children at a camp for the displaced.

Social Security and Protection Director General Harry Hikmat says the ministry has also sent supplies and logistics to Jayawijaya.
