Vanuatu president says security personnel suffering

The president of Vanuatu, Father Baldwin Lonsdale, has told members of parliament that the security of their country is a priority that leaders need to address.

He made the statement before the opening of the first ordinary sitting of parliament today.

President Lonsdale said the Vanuatu Police Force and the Vanuatu Mobile Force are understaffed, under resourced and poorly paid.

He says MPs need to ensure the officers are appreciated and that their morale is lifted.
