Bushfire near Hobart may burn for a week

A large bushfire in southern Tasmania is likely to continue for another week.

AAP reports the fire at Molesworth, northwest of Hobart, has burned 1900 hectares and was still out-of-control on Saturday, sending a blanket of smoke across Hobart.

Fire Service Chief Officer Mike Brown urged residents in the city's northern suburbs to be prepared for any escalation in coming days.

"People need to be prepared to act quickly and all family members need to be familiar with their bushfire survival plan," he said.
