Search resumes for person missing after boat overturns

A body has been found by searchers looking for a missing person at a North Otago river where a boat overturned yesterday.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 2.30pm, following a report that a boat carrying three people was in trouble close to Black Point in the Waitaki District.

The police say the body was found near Black Point and a formal identification and post mortem will be undertaken.

Two people walked for hours to get help following the capsize.

During the search of the Waitaki River today, jet boats were used and Land Search and Rescue were also called in from Dunedin to assist.

The boat was located yesterday.
