Customs has seized $80 million of methamphetamine in Auckland after intercepting a shipping container destined for Fiji.
Eighty kilograms of the drug were found hidden inside car parts being sent from South America to Fiji when the container was searched at the Ports of Auckland last month.
The find was the result of a joint operation between New Zealand and Fijian authorities and resulted in the arrest of a Fijian man.
Customs Investigations Manager Maurice O'Brien said the seizure was a great example of international law enforcement agencies working together.
He said it was satisfying to stop such a large amount of methamphetamine making it on to the streets.
