A man has been taken into custody after what police are calling a firearms incident in Invercargill.
Police received reports of the incident in the rural area of Kapuka about 20km east of downtown Invercargill at around 10.20pm Thursday night.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird says the Armed Offenders Squad was deployed and a man was taken into custody.
One person was shot in the leg in the incident and was taken to Southland Hospital for treatment for non life threatening injuries.
The offender and victim are known to each other, Baird said.
A 34-year-old man is due to appear in Invercargill District Court today, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident.
Police will remain at the address while a scene examination takes place.
