The newly-appointed chair of Fiji's Electoral Commission says he will be holding his first meeting of the seven-member commission either today or tomorrow.
Chen Bunn Young says the commission, which was announced by the government last week, now has to start planning for the elections promised for September.
He told FBC News that the Attorney-general, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum, approached him late last year about the possibility of accepting the role.
Mr Bunn Young says the commission has many challenges to overcome in a short time and it will now direct the elections office and the supervisor of elections who is yet to be announced.
