The Green Party is hoping a forward-thinking wahine leader will win the Tamaki Makaurau seat.
Marama Davidson - of Ngati Porou, Te Rarawa and Ngapuhi - has been chosen to stand for the party at the general elections.
She first stood for the party in the Ikaroa-Rawhiti by-election last year, when she came third to the Labour and Mana candidates, ahead of the Maori Party.
Ms Davidson is pleased with the selection, saying she has been supported for her own values and work as an activist.
She said female representation in politics was lagging, and she hoped to be a wahine Maori voice and a lens on politics.
