A seven-kilometre section of the Invercargill to Bluff walkway and cycle track is due to be opened later today.
Environment Southland chairman Ali Timms is due to cut the ribbon at 1:30pm this afternoon at the Duck Creek Bridge site.
The new section connects the existing trail at Lake Street in southern Invercargill, with Kekeno Place at Awarua, south of the city.
Construction work for the tracks began in 2010. Project managers hope to complete the connection between Invercargill and Bluff, as funding becomes available.
Environment Southland spokesperson Warren Tuckey said there was no finish date for the whole trail, but eventually there would be a complete link between Invercargill and Bluff.
The $450,000 project has been funded by Environment Southland, the Invercargill Licensing Trust and Te Araroa Trails Trust.
