Chch rebuild shows signs of easing

17:10 pm on 28 November 2014

Construction in Canterbury is showing the first signs of easing since the Christchurch rebuild got fully underway.

The Cantometer - an ASB bank indicator designed to capture the pick-up in Canterbury activity - showed there has been some easing in construction, with a decline in residential and non-residential consents issued in September this year.

It said the lower number of consents pointed to a reduction in construction work in the pipeline.

However, it said the easing in construction demand came off the back of very strong activity in previous quarters and the trend remained positive.

Sales of ready-mix concrete continued to surge in the past quarter.
