Hundreds march in Samoa over land issue

16:04 pm on 18 December 2017

Hundreds of people took to the streets of Apia over the weekend to prtoest against a law they say violates Samoan customary land rights.

On Saturday about 200 people marched through Apia protesting against the Lands Title Registration Act 2008, which they claim breaks communal land into individual titles, thus infringing on customary rights, saying it only applies to freehold land.

Our correspondent Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia was at the march and told Koro Vaka'uta it was well attended by both the public and a high police presence.
