An investigation into the alleged misuse of over $US7 million in the National Statistical Office has been launched by the Papua New Guinea government.

The National newspaper reported the investigation will be led by Chief Secretary Isaac Lupari and follows the suspension of National Statistician, Roko Koloma.
Perou N'Drasal from the Port Moresby police said Mr Koloma had ignored a request to be interviewed.
Mr N'Drasal said he was disappointed with him because as a leader he should adhere to the request over the allegations of abuse of
NSO accounts.
Michael Kumung, the acting Registrar-General of the PNG Civil and Identity Registry, will be acting National Statistician for the next three months.
