Hawke's Bay Regional Council says it's working with the AFFCO meat company to find a sustainable solution to discharges by its plant in Wairoa into the nearby river.
In July 2009 the Council granted the company consent to discharge wastewater and stormwater into the Wairoa river, subject to certain conditions.
A month later AFFCO objected to four of the conditions and lodged an appeal with the Environment Court.
Since then both the company and the council have been working to find a solution to the issue.
A Council spokesperson says last December a joint report which represented the position of both parties was filed with the Court.
Drew Broadley says it confirmed AFFCO will install a new multi port diffuser by the end of this month.
He says the effectiveness of the equipment will be constantly monitored.
Mr Broadley says AFFCO and the Council are still involved in an Environment Court mediation process.
