American Samoa health authorities have determined that 20 percent of the population should be tested for covid-19.
The territory is requesting 25,000 Covid-19 test kits from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to carry out community testing for the virus.
Department of Health epidemiologist Dr Afili John Tufa said community testing was to make sure that there were no asymptomatic carriers of the disease who may be spreading the virus.
He said enough kits were required to be able to conduct extensive contact tracing and case investigations in the event there are confirmed cases in the territory.
As of Sunday, the number of coronavirus tests conducted by the department and sent off-island was 110 - all have yielded negative results.
American Samoa's population is approximately 55,200.
