Twelve people were involved in three separate car crashes across the country in two hours on Boxing Day.
Six people were injured, with three in a serious condition, after a crash in the Auckland suburb of Goodwood Heights just after 6pm.
St John said they have been taken to Middlemore Hospital.
Another five people were injured after a two car collision on the Lindis Pass in Otago about 5.30pm.
The police said the crash occurred about 15 minutes from Omarama and a helicopter was called.
Earlier, one person was left with moderate injuries after a two car crash on State Highway One between Piarere and Tirau about 4pm.
