Manchester City lose ground on United

Manchester City's lost ground to local rivals Manchester United in the English football's premier league title race, after twice giving up the lead in a 2-2 draw away to Birmingham.

The draw leaves City eight points behind leaders United, having played one more game than the competition leaders.

New Liverpool striker Luis Suarez marked his debut by coming off the bench to score the Reds' second goal in a 2-nil win over Stoke, as Liverpool continues its resurgence under Kenny Dalgleish.

West Ham climbed off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 win away to Blackpool while Tottenham maintained their pursuit of a Champions League berth with a 1-nil win over Blackburn Rovers, to close within three points of fourth-placed Chelsea.

Newcastle lost one nil to Fulham and Wolves lost one nil to Bolton, dropping to the bottom of the table.
