An injured bushwalker has been winched to safety after spending the night in a canyon in the Blue Mountains.

She injured her back on Friday while canyoning with two other people.

Two New South Wales Ambulance paramedics spent the night with her in Claustral Canyon near Mt Tomah because it was not safe to lift her out in the dark.

AAP reports she was winched out of the canyon by an ambulance helicopter on Saturday morning and taken to Westmead hospital.

The woman was in a lot of pain overnight, her friend Flip Burnes told Network Seven.

"The paramedics were fantastic," she said.

Ms Burns and another friend were also winched out on Saturday, cold and wet but uninjured.
