Police in Huntly are appealing for information from the public after a man was seriously injured in a fight there on Saturday night.
The police says the man, 35, was punched in the face and hit the back of his head on the road.
He is in a critical condition in Waikato hospital's intensive care unit.
Police say the incident happened outside a fundraising event at the Taniwharau Rugby League Club.
A man has been arrested and has been charged with assault and police say more serious charges are pending.
They particularly want to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident.
