Niue stands to benefit from financial and technical assistance from its newest development partner, the Asian Development Bank.
Tourism is the main economic driver of Niue - marketed as the "Rock of Polynesia" - but there is potential for diversification especially with a high-speed internet cable on its way to the island.
The Bank's Pacific director of social and public sector management, Emma Veve, who went to Niue, said while Niue was a way off the massive financial investment portfolios of the banks' other Pacific clients there was a lot it can gain from the partnership.
"What Niue is really looking forward to is our ability to provide some technical assistance in key government areas around public financial management, around project management and building capacity there but also in other areas.
"The have got the Manatua Submarine Cable is arriving soon so helping government assess how they can use that enhanced internet capacity for service delivery to their population."
Ms Veve said the Niue Chamber of Commerce had also expressed interest in working with the Bank on strategies to develop the private sector.
