New Plymouth's Len Lye Centre is in the running to be World Building of the Year.
The $12 million centre, which features a 32 tonne 14m-high mirror-grade stainless steel facade, opened last year.
Centre director Simon Rees said the festival was the big league of international architecture, and it was fantastic the centre had been recognised as being up there with the best.
The Patterson Associates-designed centre is up against 17 other buildings in its category.
The overall winner will be announced in Berlin in November.
