Samoa Tourism Authority says 2012 saw a 5.5 percent rise in visitors

The Samoa Tourism Authority says the number of visitors to the country last year climbed 5.5 percent over the previous year.

The Authority says the total number of visitors to Samoa in 2012 was 134,564 compared to 127,603 visitors in 2011.

It says the result is the highest ever recorded number of visitors to Samoa in the last five years.

Tourism earnings for 2012 rose nine percent compared to 2011.

The Tourism Authority says holiday travellers overtook visiting relatives and friends as the biggest category of visitors.

Holiday travellers increased by 20 percent and contributed 39 percent of the total visitor traffic.
